Fast Painting in Foios

Imagine making sand castles without water, or ice sculpture with temperatures hovering at 0, and you get a sense of the frustration involved in trying to paint all day outdoors in acrylic paint, a water-soluble medium, in drizzle and humidity approaching 100 percent.

This was my experience at the 11th Fast Painting Contest in Foios on Saturday, my third go at the contest, and, for me at least, the official kick-off to the season in plein air painting in Spain.

It wasn't fun, my piece turned out pastel and washed out, and I think I even broke my camera so I can't upload any photos, but I'm glad I toughed it out and now the ice is broken.
