  1. This is based on a street in Spain, no? I'm curious -- when you paint verticals (e.g., the buildings here) are you setting up an energy? That's what I feel in this piece: there's an energy of movement in the oblique lines of the buildings versus the utility pole and its shadow, which are "straight verticals," parallel to the sides of the format.

  2. Nope, it's a laneway in Toronto I sketched and turned into a painting. It was nameless, somewhere near College and Bathurst. I'm not sure I thought of energy but definitely light and pull - the viewer's into the piece. The parallels were almost accidental, though in retrospect I think I subconsciously picked up on and was appealed by the two askew sets of them. Thanks for the comments.
