Miniature in the Mail #5: "A Car's Life"

"A Car's Life"
5" x 5"
Oil on masonite
One continuity between life in Tuscany and in southern California has been the slim, immaculately pruned cypresses, like massively overgrown cactus spines, neatly contained behind cement fences. Also, of course, the cars, which make just about anywhere in the world these days feel like home. In a philosophy class I once took, the professor asked, If an alien were to come to the planet, would it think we were the lifeforms driving the cars around or was it the cars, employing us to drive them around, unbeknownst to ourselves.
