Toronto Street Art

My love and I got free tickets to the Toronto Art Expo this weekend.  It was the first time I'd checked out the show at the Metro Convention Centre.  Some beautiful pieces.  Highlights for me were Andrea Maguire, Peter Colbert, Heather Haynes, Craig Alan, and Martin Quen - though there were many more.  Unfortunately, I wasn't allowed to take photos, but I did snap some great graffiti on Queen West.

Speaking of graffiti, I recommend the Banksy movie and Julian Schnabel's Basquiat.  The scripts aren't great but the art is super.

Wild Words with the WCDR

I was overjoyed to find out that I had won the Writers’ Circle of Durham Region’s Wild Words Anthology Cover Art Competition.

I have followed the WCDR on the Internet for a while - in fact, I found an opportunity on their contest calendar a few years ago that lead to one of my first publications - so it was great to be invited to a literary breakfast and to meet members.

The breakfast included a keynote speaker, announcements of scholarships, and lots of talk about writing retreats and book launches.  It was inspiring!  Throughout the breakfast I kept thinking, But how do they attract so many people, how can they be this organized?  I would love for the Guelph area to have a similar support network for writers.

I would like to thank the WCDR and Heather M. O’Connor in particular for inviting me out and showing me a great time.

Open Book Ontario published a news piece which includes an image of the cover.
