"Kozie Prery," 36" x 48", mixed media on birch panel - SOLD |
As the polar vortex descends on the north, here's a summery piece I did inspired by the backstreets and laneways of downtown Chicago, in particular Bucktown, where I just happened to stay for a few days in a converted factory.
I don't know a lot about Chicago, other than I liked it a lot. It reminded me of my hometown, Toronto, even the way the people were.
I got a kick out of reading that Bucktown, now as congested and urban as can be, was not too long ago called "Kozie Prery," goat prairie, a name given to it by early Polish settlers.
Cities are sedimentary rock - layers upon layers of the past.
Keep warm!
